The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that a child have their first dental visit around their first birthday, or six months after the first tooth erupts, whichever is first. This first appointment is an important opportunity to create a positive foundation for future dental experiences, answer any questions that you may have as the child’s parent (or primary caregiver) and take a look to see that everything is developing well.
No matter what age a child has their first visit to our office, we make it a fun experience, and customize it to fit the needs of the child. Young children are welcome to sit on their parents lap and we introduce them to everything that they will see and we will use throughout the appointment. There is no pressure to “accomplish” anything at the visit – our goal is to make their early experiences as positive and fun as possible so that they are comfortable and happy visiting the dentist throughout their whole life!
